Michael planned the perfect surprise proposal at a Christmas tree farm in Idaho Falls! His girlfriend, Katie, absolutely loves all things related to Christmas. They met through a dating app when Michael moved to Jackson, WY for work and have been together for the past six years. The two of them had already picked out a gorgeous ring together, so Katie knew that the proposal would be coming sometime soon. But Michael wanted the proposal to be a surprise and he pulled it off! He told Katie that the proposal wouldn’t be until Christmas or New Years to throw her off the scent.
The Proposal Story
When Michael’s mom asked if Katie would join their family picture session, she suspected nothing. We did a normal family session together at a Christmas tree farm – the perfect location for Katie’s love of Christmas! We got some cute, festive photos of the family. Michael kept his cool the entire time and no one let the secret slip!
At the end of the session, I pulled Michael and Katie away from the group to a secluded area to take photos of just the two of them. I gave Michael the code word we had planned beforehand and asked Katie to face away from him for a “dramatic pose”. Michael dropped to one knee and asked her to turn around. She was so surprised!!! It was priceless to see her reaction – she was totally shocked and so happy at the same time. It was a really special moment for the two of them. I was so happy I could be there to capture it!
Then the rest of the family came to congratulate the happy couple. Michael’s mom had made an adorable wreath with the words “we’re engaged” and the date 12/4/21 as a special keepsake for the two of them. It was the perfect prop for photos too! We did a mini engagement session with Michael and Katie afterwards. They both had the biggest smiles the entire time.
Katie’s ring was stunning with a rectangular cushion cut diamond in the center, two smaller diamonds on the side, and a twisted band. Michael had it cleaned so that it was extra sparkly and gorgeous. Katie kept admiring it on her finger all evening, and I can’t blame her! After the photo session, they all went to their favorite restaurant to celebrate.
